Challenge

The client is a fintech startup that needed to create a responsive design for their crypto exchange platform, the scope was to focus on the wallet with the ability to buy and sell various cryptocurrencies. Additionally, the design had to consider crypto-specific patterns, such as delays in fund arrivals and the linking of wallets through keys. The target audience already identified is for users that are likely have had experience investing in traditional assets but are quite new as well as experienced crypto traders we wanted to ensure the interface was clear and simple without any jargon or barriers to entry.

After reviewing the client’s brief and existing research. I mapped out the information architecture that the wallet flow would fall in so I can understand the context of the other information around it. Then I began mapping out the core user flows that would occur within the wallets page including empty state new user flow, adding wallet, linking existing wallet, removing wallet and transferring funds from wallet.

The sidebar portfolio wallet sticky version was ultimately chosen because we wanted to establish that it is the default portfolio wallet rather than the overarching price summary of the wallet. Low-fidelity variations included card-based nested wallets, exposed hierarchy, table-based structuring, and comparisons between centered and sticky sidebar approaches.

The wallet screen design focuses on managing multiple currencies and wallets, with a primary portfolio for daily transactions. It features an intuitive interface for effortless addition and navigation between wallets, ensuring clarity and control over digital assets. Iterative improvements and user feedback have crafted a secure and efficient tool for cryptocurrency management, catering to both novice and experienced users alike.

With intuitive navigation and responsive layouts, users can effortlessly monitor balances, execute transactions, and switch between wallets directly from their smartphones. The mobile interface maintains visual coherence and functionality, ensuring a seamless transition from desktop to mobile without compromising usability.

Conclusion

The Securrency crypto dashboard achieved a high level of client satisfaction, as evidenced by successful Series A funding and subsequent acquisition by DTCC in 2023. My key takeaway from this project is the importance of leveraging familiar UX patterns from established sectors, such as banking and stock trading platforms, when designing for novel areas like cryptocurrency investment. By incorporating these familiar patterns, we can significantly reduce the perceived complexity and make the concept of investing in crypto more accessible and intuitive for new users. This approach not only enhances usability but also fosters trust and confidence in navigating the complexities of digital asset management.
